Ya Shi Xiang (Duck Poop) Oolong Tea
Ya She Xiang or Duck Poop Oolong is a famous tea from Fenghuang (phoenix) Town, Chaozhou City Guangdong, China. The origin of the name comes from a story that states the mother tea tree of Ya Shi Xiang cultivar was found growing in the “ya shi” soil, which is yellowish soil that contains chalk and resembles duck poop. The tea farmer who discovered the tea tree, created tea from the leaves and invited his neighbors to try it. The neighbors were very impressed by the teas floral aroma and delightful taste, and wanted to know where the harvest was from. The farmer was so afraid his prized tea tree would get stolen that he gave it an unattractive name “Ya Shi Xiang” or "Duck Poop Oolong".
